2017 Golden Globe nominations announce

This morning, the nominations were announced for the 2017 Golden Globe awards. As always, it was a mix of Academy Award frontrunners and one offs that will see their only moment in the sun courtesy of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Globes are as much about perception as anything else in the awards season, so doing well here certainly doesn’t hurt. Nothing and no one was made or broken today, but the better you did, the more helpful that will be going forward. That’s just the name of the game with the Golden Globes. Mark another precursor off on your calendar folks. We’re speeding along to the guilds, which will really impact the race in a notable way.

Leading the way today was Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, which scored seven nominations. Close behind with six each were Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Steven Spielberg’s The Post. Then we had Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird at four, while three citations apiece were bestowed upon Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya, Michael Gracey’s The Greatest Showman, Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, and surprisingly, Ridley Scott’s All The Money in the World. You’ll see all of the nominations below, but for the moment, it does seem like very little has changed in the Oscar race. The current frontrunners are still the current frontrunners, by all appearances…
